Ayurveda is only now starting to become known in the West
Ayurveda is known as the sister science of yoga, it is a healing tradition that originated in India around 5,000 years ago. It uses yoga, diet, lifestyle and herbal remedies to bring your body into harmony.
In Ayurveda, it is believed that everyone is composed of the five elements: space, earth, water, fire, and air. While we each have all of the five elements, each person has their own individual combination that makes up their constitution. The combination of these elements is known as the Doshas or constitutions of each person. There are three doshas in Ayurveda which are Pitta, Vata, Kapha.
When we are born we have our combination of doshas set. It cannot be altered and it is what our body desires to be in sync with. This is our Prakruti. But life complicates things and can cause us to become imbalanced,
this is our constitution of the moment or our Vikruti. Our Vikruti can fluctuate between the doshas depending on the season, weather, stress, and other outside influences
